Principal Investigator: Naseem Uddin

Centre for Innovative Engineering (CIE)

Kampong Ayer is a historical settlement in Bandar Seri Begawan, the capital of Brunei. It is a cluster of traditional stilt villages built on the Brunei River. Historically it is the principal settlement of Brunei which was Brunei’s social and economic center. As of the year 2011, the estimated population of Brunei still living in Kampong Ayer is 13,000. The size of the residential area is estimated to be 0.6 sq. km. With such a large number of population in a small area, the population density of Kampong Ayer is considered to be high.

The Brunei River is heavily polluted with garbage and waste coming from the catchment area of the River. In this regard a joint collaboration has been started by Royal Brunei Technical Services (RBTS) and Universiti Teknologi Brunei (UTB). This project is funded by RBTS.
